++ okonomiyaki is a japanese version of pancakes. the first time i tried this was when i was living at the student housing. my american housemate cooked this for us at one of our weekly dinners. she lived in japan for a few months and learned how to make this.
ingredients
- 3 cups plain flour
- 1/2 potato pelled and grated
- 5 eggs
- 2 cups water
- 3 green cabbages leaves, shredded
- 100g bean shoots
- 6 green onions sliced
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
sauce
- 2 tablespoon thick sweet japanese soy sauce
- 1/2 cup thick whole egg mayonnaise
how to...
- ix together flour, potato, 1 egg, a pinch of salt and enough water to form a batter the consistency of thickened cream. add cabbages, bean sprouts, green onions and mushrooms.
- heat a little oil in a large non-stick pan over medium heat. spoon 1/4 of mixture per pancake. cook for 10 minutes.
- make hole in the middle of each pancake and crack an egg in to the hole. cook fo another 5 minutes.
- tun pancake over and cook for another 10-15 minutes until pancake is cooled through.
- to make sauce, combine soy sauce and mayo. serve with pancake.
** i made a variation of this and added some shredded chicken in as well. its yummy
